Puss in Boots

There was once a miller who had three sons. When he died his sons divided their father's possessions between them. The eldest son took the mill, the second the donkey and the youngest had nothing but the cat.

"Don't be sad, master," said Puss. "Give me a sack and a pair of boots and I'll soon make you richer than either of your brothers.

.The boy was very surprised to hear the cat talk but he gave him what he wanted

The cat put on the boots, swung the sack over his shoulder and set out into the woods.
The cat laid the sack on the ground and filled it with lettuce leaves, then hid himself behind a tree. Before long a rabbit came by and hopped inside the sack to eat the lettuce. Quickly, Puss leaped up and grabbed the sack. The off he went to the King's palace.

"Your Majesty," said Puss, "I have brought you a gift from my master, the Marquis of Carrabas.

This was the title he had invented for the miller's son.

The King was amused by this cat wearing boots and talking.

"Tell your master," he said, "that I am delighted to accept his gift.

"I have a plan," said Puss one day. "Do as I say, master, and your fortune will be made. Go for a swim in the river and leave the rest to me.

The miller's son did as puss suggested and, while he was bathing, the royal coach came by.

"Help!" cried Puss. My master, the Marquis of Carrabas, is drowning!

The King quickly ordered his coachman to save the Marquis. "Thank you, your Majesty," said Puss. "But what shall my master do? A thief has stolen his clothes."

The King was very sorry to hear this and at hear and at once offered the young man a suit of fine clothes. Seeing the miller's son dressed in these rich clothes, the Princess Jasmine ( who was riding in the coach with the King ) immediately fell in love with him.
Princess Jasmine persuaded her father to let the miller's son ride with them in their carriage. Meanwhile Puss ran on ahead. Soon he arrived at a huge castle where a terrible ogre lived. At once Puss began to flatter the ogre, telling him that his fame had spread far and wide. The ogre was delighted with this. He invited the cat to come inside and gave him food and wine.

"Sir," said the cunning cat, "I have been told that you are able to turn yourself into any animal you please. Is this true?" "Certainly," boasted the ogre and immediately he transformed himself into a great lion.

The cat was terrified and scrambled up on to a high cupboard. "That's quite clever," said Puss, "but I imagine it's easy for an ogre to turn himself into a large animal. It would be much more difficult. if not impossible, to turn yourself into small creature, such a mouse.
"Impossible?" roared the ogre. "Nothing is impossible for me!" And instantly he changed himself into a tiny fieldmouse. With one leap Puss caught the mouse and ate it!

Soon the King's carriage arrived at the castle. Puss quickly ran to meet it. Bowing low, he said, "Welcome, your Majesty, to the castle of the Marquis of Carrabas.

The King was very impressed with the splendid castle with the Marquis of Carrabas. He declared that, since the Marquis and his daughter, Princess Jasmine, had obviously fallen in love, they ought to get married. This they did, and lived happily ever after.

As for Puss, he lived off the fat of the land until the end of his days.
